Bubala - Soho ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

The name Bubala comes from the Yiddish word meaning 'darling.' They began as a pop-up and now have three restaurants located in King's Cross, Soho and Spitalfields.
Taking inspiration from the Middle East, Bubalas's dishes centre around a no-meat and all-veggie concept – think oyster mushrooms, smacked cucumber and luxuriously smooth hummus with burnt butter. They also cater to vegans so a great spot for those that are vegetarian and vegan! (or meat eaters, as we are both very much meat-eaters)

Halloumi, chamomile & fennel honey
We opted for the vegetarian set menu, Bubala Knows Best (£39) as we realised that everything we wanted to try was included and we were promised unlimited flatbreads. Say less!
Food Highlights
Oyster mushroom skewer - flavours were perfect, the mushrooms were the perfect sponge for the sauce (could be wrong as it doesn't say on their menu but thought there was a hint of soya sauce)
Halloumi, chamomile & fennel honey - this was divine, we've both been in our halloumi era recently, having both made it for meals at home and this combo was just spectacular
Confit potato latkes, toum, Aleppo chilli - perfectly crispy, tons of layers and the dip balanced the potato well
Laffa bread - we know this was just flatbread, but it was so addictive, we got two plates in the end but the amount of flaky sea salt on top was just right and the smokiness really complemented the hummus and burnt butter

Overall Experience
quite popular so difficult to book, so recommend you book early in advance – we booked around 1.5/2 weeks in advance and we opted for an early 17:45 sitting
the service was great, staff were friendly and informative
great ambiance, it was busy but not loud and although it was packed, we didn't feel like we were about to elbow the people beside us
the food came out quickly and was warm, in fact, the flatbread almost burnt Mimi's fingers!
would definitely come back and revisit
